Gonzaga Women's Basketball: A New Era and Offseason Prospects
The 2024-25 season marks a transformative period for Gonzaga University women's basketball as four veteran starters depart, necessitating new roles for incoming players. Despite a challenging beginning to nonconference play, the team rebounded to share the West Coast Conference (WCC) regular-season title with Portland for the second consecutive year, though they fell short in the WCC Tournament semifinals, missing out on the NCAA Tournament.
Looking ahead, head coach Lisa Fortier will focus on rebuilding, with Allie Turner and Ins Bettencourt expected to lead the backcourt. The addition of Paige Lofing, the Montana Girls Gatorade Player of the Year, promises to enhance the team's offensive capabilities. Lofing, an exceptional shooter and playmaker, is anticipated to complement Turner effectively.
However, the loss of key players in the frontcourt raises concerns. Lauren Whittaker, a 6-foot-3 forward, aims to fill this gap alongside potential recruits from the transfer portal. As Gonzaga prepares for its final season in the WCC, strategic offseason decisions will be critical for future success.
